After the honeymoon, Christina and Face returned to their home in San Diego, California. The team had thrown them a 'Welcome Home' party. When they entered the door, balloons and streamers were hanging from the ceiling as their friends were welcoming them home with open arms. The party lasted for nearly 5 hours. After everyone went home, Christina and Face had time to spend with the rest of the team.
"So, what was the cruise like?" Murdock asked anxiously. Christina started smiling "It was incredible. I don't think I've ever had so much fun in my entire life".
"You know what? I think the five of us should go sometime." Christina added. Murdock got the biggest smile and said, "Can Billy go too?" BA just shook his head. "Ain't no stupid dog, fool." Face and Christina laughed.
"You know Chris, that's not such a bad idea" Hannibal remarked.
It was around 8 a.m. Friday morning when Christina decided to go to the studio and practice some classical music that she had been working on. Face was sitting on the couch drinking his coffee and reading the newspaper. The rest of the team had gone out for breakfast.
"I'm going to the studio for a little while" she said as she bent down to kiss Face goodbye.
"That's fine. The guys and I have a case that we're working on. We'll probably be out until this afternoon." Face replied.
"Just be careful," she said as she sat down next to him. He put his coffee cup down and turned toward her. "I want you to be careful, too." She nodded and said, "I will". He leaned over and took her into his arms and passionately kissed her. "I love you with all of my heart" she said. "I love you too, baby." He replied.
When she got to the studio, there was no one in the auditorium but her. She sat down at the piano and started to play her classical music that she had been working on. After playing for almost twenty minutes, a hand violently grabbed her neck from behind. She could not turn around to see who was doing this to her. The hand lifted her up and led her to the center of the stage and then let go. She turned around to find her brother.
"You're supposed to be in prison," she said.
"The case was brought back up to trial. It seems the evidence was tampered with. They had to declare a mistrial, so they let me go due to my good behavior. They didn't see me as a threat". Christopher was watching her reaction closely.
"What do you want?" she asked.
"Revenge." He said as he hit her and knocked her down. He then began to violently kick and hit her. Each blow to her body was harder than the one before. She never let out a scream. That would have been too much satisfaction for him. After fifteen minutes of him beating her, she finally passed out. When she awoke, she was alone. She sat up and tried to get her strength back. She then drove herself back home.
When she got home, no one was there. That was one time she was happy that she was alone in the house. She went to her bedroom, took off her shoes, lay down on her bed, curled up in a ball and cried herself to sleep. Fifteen minutes later, Face came home and found her lying on the bed. He saw the tear-streaked face and a fairly large dark bruise on the side of her neck. He gently shook her, hoping to wake her, so she could explain the bruise. She sat straight up in bed and let out a blood-curdling scream, which startled Face. He reached for her but she backed away still screaming.
"Chris, it's me." Face said quietly while reaching for her.
She continued to scream while finding a nearby corner to crunch up in. Murdock and Hannibal came running into the room where the screams were coming from.
"What's going on?" Hannibal asked.
"I think she's having a nightmare. She doesn't recognize me at all. I came in and found her curled up in a ball. Apparently, she cried herself to sleep. She's got a bad bruise on the side of her neck and I want to know why. When I tried to wake her, she started backing away from me and started screaming. I just don't understand". Face said.
Murdock slowly walked toward her and knelt down in front of her. "Chris, it's okay. It's just me," Murdock said softly. He gently brushed the hair out of her eyes and she backed into the corner even further as she cried, "Please don't hurt me!" He turned and looked over his shoulder at Face with surprise and anger in his eyes and spoke in almost a whisper. "She's got a bad bruise on both sides of her neck. Somebody man-handled her". With that, all three men looked at each other with vengeance in their eyes. They were going to make someone pay for doing this to her.
She continued to scream. "I've got an idea. Face, you and Murdock grab her and I'll turn on the shower. The water might just snap her out of it" Hannibal said as he walked to the shower and turned it on. Face and Murdock got on each side of her and lifted her to her feet. She kicked and screamed until the water began to soak her.
"Face?" she said as she looked into his blue eyes.
"It's okay, Chris. I'm right here". With that, she leaped into his arms and clung to him as if she were never going to let go. The sobs shook her entire body as she stood there, soaked, with her husband holding her weight against him.
"Murdock, why don't you and Hannibal wait in the living room while I check to see if she's hurt anywhere else." Murdock and Hannibal did as they were asked and waited patiently in the living room.
Face began to undress her. He took his time so that he wouldn't frighten her. When he removed her shirt and bra, he found massive bruising all over her chest and back. He gasped in horror.
"Who did this to you?" he asked with anger in his voice as his eyes met hers. She looked away. He took her face in his hand and gently brought her to meet his gaze.
"Who?" he repeated. She softly spoke the words "Christopher". He could not believe what he was hearing.
"He's in prison," Face said.
She shook her head no and said "Not anymore". She began to cry again as he removed the rest of her clothes. She was covered from head to toe in very bad bruises. Face held her in his arms as she cried even more.
"Shh. It's okay. I'm not going to let him hurt you anymore. I promise." He said.
Face dried her off and helped her change clothes. As soon as both of them were dried and dressed, they went to the living room and Christina explained what had happened. Hannibal looked as if he were going to cry. He felt responsible for this. After all, he was the one that told Christina that her brother had been put in prison. He was certain at the time that Christopher would die in prison. 'Why is he out? She doesn't deserve this' Hannibal thought.
That night, Christina and Face had been asleep in each other's arms for almost three hours. Christina started talking in her sleep. "My husband is going to kill you". Face lay awake listening closely. "Stop" she murmured. All of a sudden, she sat up and screamed "NO!" Face sat up next to her and placed his arms around her. She turned toward him and flung herself into his arms crying.
"Shh. It's okay. It's just a dream. Try to get some sleep". He softly pushed her back onto the bed and covered her up. "Water. Will you get me some water?" He nodded and got out of bed. Murdock, Hannibal and B.A. met him in the hall. "Is she okay?" Hannibal asked. "Yeah. It's just a bad dream. Sorry to wake you", Face said. "No problem. Just as long as she's okay," Murdock replied. When Face came back with the water, Christina was sound asleep.
The next day, Christina was folding laundry down in the basement when she noticed Face standing on the steps. She jumped slightly and turned toward him. "I didn't mean to startle you," he said as he sat down on the steps.
"It's okay. I'm just a little jumpy, that's all" she replied. She continued to fold the laundry.
"I was hoping we could talk" Face remarked.
"Something strange happened last night and I was wondering if you could help me understand". With that statement, she turned toward him and watched him as he walked to where she was standing.
"What happened that was so strange?"
"After you had your nightmare, I went to the kitchen to get you some water. The phone rang". He was watching her reaction closely.
"It was just Coy checking to see if I was okay," she said.
He looked surprised. "You couldn't have possibly known that. You were asleep".
"I know. It's just that Coy always calls to check to see if I'm okay right after I have a nightmare". She turned to watch his expression.
"How did he know that you had a nightmare? You didn't have enough time to call and tell him".
"He always knows."
"You want to explain to me what you're talking about? I'm completely confused". She smiled at him and then began her story.
"Something happened to me and Coy a few years ago and ever since then, we always know when the other one is having a bad dream. I can't explain it. It's just something that happened". Now Face was curious.
"Something happened? Like what?" he asked.
"It was right after Salami and Nicky were killed. The boys thought that I needed to get away for a while. Uncle Jesse and Daisy were staying with my aunt and uncle who were going through some hard times. Bo and Luke were off on the Nascar circuit. Coy and Vance put in for me to stay with them so I wouldn't be here by myself."
Face sat down in the chair facing her and listened intently.
"There was a fair over in Hatchabee and the guys thought that it would do me good to go. So we went. There were these two ladies there that were performing motorcycle stunts. One was a pretty blonde named Billy Ann and the other was her sister, Marie. Coy took a shining to Billy Ann and they courted the entire weekend."
She sat down next to Face and continued.
"It was just about this time, that there were two people masquerading around as motorcycle cops robbing people all over the county. Something just didn't seem right to me. I tried to tell Vance, but he just said that I was jealous of the time Coy was spending with Billy Ann. I knew that wasn't true. I was happy for Coy. I really was. But something just kept telling me that I should look into these motorcycle cops. I started making phone calls to the counties that had just been host to the fairs where the girls were performing. It turns out that every county that I called had their payroll stolen. Well, curiosity got the best of me. So I got up early the next morning and started riding around trying to figure out what to do. That's when I saw two people dressed in police uniforms riding motorcycles. They pulled over the car in front of them and held them up at gunpoint. They stole every bit of money that those poor people had. I followed them back, out of sight of course, to their hideout. I got out of the car and sneaked over to a nearby window. Sure enough, it was Billy Ann and her sister."
Face was mesmerized by her story. He couldn't take his eyes off of her.
"I went back to the farm to tell Coy the bad news. Since it was such a nice day, the boys had let all the windows up and opened the screen door. When I got there, Vance was in the kitchen and Coy was out in the yard chopping wood for the winter. Coy immediately asked me where I had been. I told him exactly what I had seen. He told me to shut up. He's never talked to me that way before. When I tried to continue," she paused as a single tear fell down her face.
Face watched as she struggled to continue.
"He hit me."
"He hit you?" Face asked carefully.
"Just like a guy in a bar brawl. When he hit me, Vance flew out the door and pinned Coy to the side of the house. I got up and ran just as hard and just as far as I possibly could. I ended up at Crater Lake, which is a couple of miles from the farm. I stayed there a couple of hours sorting things out in my head. I walked all the way home and saw that Coy had left in the General. Vance was sitting on the doorsteps waiting for me. When I got almost to him, he stood up and opened his arms. I walked into his arms and cried. He picked me up and carried me to the bathroom and washed the dry blood from my face. After he was finished, he told me that he was real proud of me for telling Coy what I had seen. He said that he knew that was hard for me to do. He said that Coy knew deep down in his heart that I was telling the truth. It's just that he was in love and didn't want to hear any different."
She got up from her chair and started back folding the laundry.
"Coy had done the same thing that I had done. He followed the motorcycle cops to their hideout. He saw with his own eyes that I was telling the truth. After Vance cleaned me up, I walked back to Crater Lake and stayed the rest of the afternoon. Just before I was getting ready to leave, Coy drove up. He got out of the car and sat down beside me. He had his knees drawn into his chest with his arms resting on his knees. He told me that he followed Billy Ann and had seen what I had told him. He said he was sorry and he didn't blame me if I never spoke to him again. I told him that I understood why he didn't believe me. That's when he told me that it wasn't that he didn't believe me, it was just that he didn't want to believe me. Anyway, he made me a promise that he would never let another woman come between us."
Face looked up at her and said, "I must admit that was an incredible story, but I still don't understand how that explains why he knew you had a nightmare".
"I don't really know how to explain it. It's just that we created a bond between the two of us that was so strong that we know when the other one is having a bad dream. Strange, huh?"
He nodded and stood up facing her.
"Those boys mean everything to me, Face. They're the only family I have left. Christopher's killed every one else in my family. Sometimes I worry that he's going after them. But now I know that he's focused on you instead. That really scares me."
He held her in his arms and smiled "Don't worry about me. He's not going to hurt me, you or anyone else for that matter ever again."
"I hope you're right. I don't think I could stand to lose anyone else right now. It's just too much to bear". He brushed the hair out of her eyes and kissed her passionately. Her hands caressed his chest as his hands found their way to her firm bottom. She moaned under his touch. His hands unbuttoned her shirt and moved her bra out of the way so that his mouth could take them in. Face and Christina were burning with passion.
"What about the guys?" she asked between kisses.
"Out for the afternoon" he answered as his hands fondled her breasts.
He backed her up against the wall and unsnapped her jeans. She took off his shirt and then pushed his jeans and underwear down around his ankles. By this time, he had her jeans and underwear down. He lifted her legs up as she wrapped them around his waist while he entered her. Their breathing was heavy. Each thrust became more possessive and passionate. His tongue explored her mouth as her hands wrapped around his neck. Finally they climaxed and he sat her down. They got dressed and then went upstairs to take a shower together.
Two days later, Christina got dressed and started out the door. "Where are you going?" Face asked.
"To the auditorium" she replied.
"No, you're not" Face said as he stood up and walked over to her.
"Why?" she asked.
"Does the word 'Christopher' mean anything to you?" he asked.
"He's not stupid enough to attack me again this soon," she said.
"You're not going and that's final," he said sternly.
"You're telling me that I have to stay indoors for the rest of my life?" she asked.
"No. Just until Christopher is back in prison or dead; whichever one comes first," he said seriously.
"Face, I appreciate your concern. I really do, but I'll be alright" she said as she got the keys to her car and started toward the door.
He took the keys from her hand and grabbed her gently. "I'm forbidding you, as your husband, to go to the auditorium". She could not believe her ears. He was glad that he had married an old-fashioned woman from Georgia who didn't believe in women's lib. This time it would work to his advantage.
"Why are you doing this to me?" she asked.
"Because I'm madly in love with you and I don't want anything to happen to you," he said.
"What if you go with me? Then can I go?" she tried to compromise.
He thought for a minute and then replied, "I guess that would be okay". They got their things and left. When they arrived, Face checked the entire auditorium before he even let her sit down. When he saw that everything was clear, he told her it was okay and she began to play. He sat down in the first seat on the first row and watched her intently. He was amazed at her playing. How was it that he had overlooked this talent of hers; a talent that could calm her very soul when it was troubled.
"Face?" she asked.
"What is it, honey?" Face asked as he looked at her.
"You look as if you're a million miles away. Is something wrong?" she asked with great concern in her voice.
"No, baby. Nothing's wrong. I'm just wandering why I never noticed how talented you are."
She blushed with this comment. "I'm not that good. It just makes me feel better," she said softly.
"Christina, you're very good and I'm so proud of you. Why didn't you ever get a piano at the house?" he asked.
She thought for a moment. "I guess that I'm so used to coming here that I never thought about having one at home".
Just then the side door on the stage opened and Face shot up from his seat, gun in hand. He ran and jumped up on the stage next to his wife. "Stay here" he said sternly. He went around to the back of the stage and came back a minute later with a note in his hand. "What does it say?" she asked as he sat down beside her on the piano bench. He began to read:
It's not over.
It's just getting started.
When I'm through with you,
You'll be dearly departed.
Christina began to shake all over. Face placed his arms around her as she buried her head in his chest. The tears began as she remembered the beating she received the day before. "Come on. Let's go home," he said as he helped her up. "I don't deserve this do I Face? Why won't he leave me alone?" she asked through the tears. "No, baby. You don't deserve this. We're going to get him this time, I promise," he said as he lifted her face in his hand to meet his eyes. He wiped the tears from her face and gently kissed her mouth.
