The weather is rainy and grey.  'Perfect weather for they way I'm feeling.' Maggie Sullivan says to herself as she walks to her husband's grave.  Maggie kneels at Hannibal's headstone.  She places a single red rose on the marker.  "Colonel Smith, this is going to be our first holiday without each other." She says looking at the sky, fighting back tears.

"Why couldn't you have just stopped smoking those cigars when the doctors asked you to?" Maggie asks the headstone.  "Damn it John!  I miss you like hell!"  Maggie says through her tears.  She softly smiles.  "You wouldn't have stopped for anything or anybody.  That was part of your charm." She says.  Maggie leans forward and gently kisses the headstone.  "Until Christmas, my love." She says getting up from the wet ground.  "I love you Colonel John Smith." Maggie says as she turns to walk back to the car.

Maggie gets into the car and drives away from the place that is holding her heart, her wonderful husband.  As she drives away, she turns on the radio.  The Dance by Garth Brooks comes on the radio.

Looking back on the memory of
The dance we shared 'neath the stars alone
For a moment all the world was right
How could I have known that you'd ever say goodbye

Maggie begins to remember the first dance that she and Hannibal had at their honeymoon cabin, standing in front of the fireplace.  The silvery moon standing alone in the sky, acting as a spotlight, shining on the couple.  Both of them lost in each other's eyes.

And now I'm glad I didn't know
They way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives were better left to chance

"Like the chance you took bringing BA to me when he was shot." Maggie says.

I could have missed the pain
But I'd had to miss the dance

"Doc, would you get the fire out of your eye?" Hannibal asks trying to calm Maggie down.

Holding you I held everything
For a moment wasn't I the king
But if I'd only known how the king would fall
Hey who's to say you know I might have changed it all

"When you held me in your arms, I always felt safe and very loved.  Why didn't I try harder to get you to stop smoking those damn cigars?" Maggie asks hitting the steering wheel.

And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd have to miss the dance

Maggie wipes her tears away as she pulls into Chely and Face's driveway.

Yes my life is better left to chance
I could have missed the pain but I'd had to miss the dance.

As Maggie cuts off the car she gets her stuff together and walks to the front door.  "I could have missed the pain but I'd had to miss the dance."  She looks up at the sky.  "I wouldn't have missed the dance for anything in the world."  Maggie Sullivan-Smith smiles as she touches the front door.  "I love you, John."
