12:00 a.m.: We have been here since 5:30 last night. My darling Face had a stroke. At least that's what the doctor's are saying. I'm sitting here worrying whether my husband will live or not. Those words still ringing loudly in my ears. ‘How could my husband suffer from a stroke?’ All those damn missions from Stockwell! He never comes through with his promises. I hope he’s happy!!

The doctor's say that Temp was has a blood clot. They need to do surgery. I am so scared! I got Murdock, B.A, Frankie and my dad here with me. They are a comfort but I need my husband safe in my arms.

12:45 a.m.: Everyone is asleep except for me. I guess it is from the coffee and excitement from last night. I just got an update! Face made it through the surgery. I need to wake up everyone. The doctor's are coming out.

2:00 a.m.: Everyone is getting settled in Face's room. Just looking at my precious husband with tubes running out of him, makes my heart ache. I take hold of his left hand and run my other hand through his silky blonde hair. Murdock eases a chair up behind me. "Sit down Chiquita." he tells me. Murdock and B.A. are in their chairs. I scoot the chair as close to the bed as I can get. We begin our vigil. As soon as I touch Face’s hand again, the stress from the previous evening finally comes out.

I feel the comforting hands of Colonel John Smith; my dad. ‘It’s okay baby.’ he tells me. As he hugs me tightly against him, I can feel his own tears falling on my shirt.

5:30 a.m.: Guess I must have dozed off. The doctors are coming by.

6:15 a.m.: ‘The next 24 to 36 hours are very critical.’ Dr. Evans told us. ‘If Mr. Smith does well within this time frame, then the ventilator can come off.’ I go back to Temp’s side.

8:00 a.m.: A nurse walks in and takes his vitals. Even knocked out, my husband can flirt with “a skirt” as he would say. The guys left to get some breakfast. I imagine that they’ll bring me something back.

9:25 a.m.: I did manage to eat an orange and some more coffee. Good ole caffeine! I look at the sleeping figure in the hospital bed. I lean down over the rail to his ear. Softly, I say to him, 'I know you can hear me. Please come back to us.' I plead with him. No response from him. I sigh and begin to write.

9:25 p.m.: I guess I fell asleep or one of the guys slipped me one of B.A.'s "nite-night" juices. 'Feel like eating something?' I look at the person asking me this question. 'It's Ellen.' I say to myself. 'Hi Ellen.' I say to my sister-in-law. As if she were reading my mind, she tells me, 'Murdock called me.' We look at the figure in the bed.

10:00 a.m.: Five days into the vigil. Everyone has taken shifts in sitting with Face. It's just me and him now. "The family" has gone downstairs to get something to eat. I look out of the window. A ray of sunlight hits my tired and worried face. I wrap my arms around myself and close my eyes for a moment.

The next thing I hear is a soft moan. I turn around and run to the bed. 'Face?' He cracks his eyes open. 'C…..Chely?' he asks. I recognize the fear in his voice. I take his hand into mine. Tem slowly turns his head to the right. 'I'm right here sweetheart.' I say to him as tears run down my face silently. 'Sleepy.' he tells me. 'It's okay baby. Go back to sleep.' I tell him as his blue eyes close.

Everyone walks back inside of the room. 'He woke up!' I say. Dad walks to the bed. 'Kid, you’re dead on your feet. Why don’t you go home with Murdock and get some sleep?’ My eyes are focused on the Face. ‘D…don’t…go.’ Everyone looks at Face. ‘I’m not going anywhere Temp.’ I assure him as I smile at him. ‘B…be…g…good…c….colonel.’ Face tells Dad as he falls asleep

9:00 a.m.: Face has left the hospital!! I am so glad that he’s home with me. Ellen has decided to stay for a vacation and help with Face. I know she loves Face but I think she loves Murdock a little bit more.

12:00 p.m.: Temp is asleep on the couch. He looks almost angelic. Murdock and Ellen are in the kitchen with me helping me fix lunch.

8:30 a.m.: Temp has a doctor’s appointment this after noon. He’s been doing better since he came home from the hospital. I am so proud of him!!

2:00 p.m.: Just got back home. Mr. Peck is asleep on the couch. He’s fighting so hard to get back to his old self. The doctor said that he was going to start Templeton in both speech and physical therapy. Some things he can pick up with his left arm and some things he can’t. From time to time, when Face talks, I can understand him. Then again, there are times where I can’t understand him.

I want to run my fingers through his hair. I love him so much. I just can’t imagine my life without Face.

8:00p.m.: I guess I fell asleep. Murdock and Ellen have dinner fixed for us. Murdock shakes me. ‘Chely.’ He calls my name. ‘Face!’ I jump up as I call his name. 'He's okay, Chel.' Murdock tells me. I still look at him. His breathing calm and even.
