The branches of sycamore and maple trees swayed in

the breeze, causing some birds to release their holds and

go looking for a more secure perch.  A few fluffy, white

clouds floated in the sky, the trail of an unseen jet cutting

a path through them.  Murdock stood straight and still,

head tilted back, feeling whisps of his own hair tickling

his ears.  "Face, this is one beautiful day and this is one

beautiful place to be."

"Murdock, we're in a cemetery."

"So we are, Face. So we are, and I don't think BA could

have picked any better spot to blow a tire." Anticipating

the response from Face, he turned to his friend. "Just

humor me, Face.  Let's walk."

Narrow trails just wide enough for a car, a hearse, Murdock

reminded himself, were cut through the sea of markers. He

could have wandered around here all day, reading the names

and dates, looking at the bits of sculpture, the little lambs on

the graves of babies who'd died too young, and the occasional

bombastic display of someone who might or might not have

been as important in life as they seemed to want to be in

death. It reminded him of home. Of where his own family

was resting, and where he might one day be himself.

The tap-tap of a horn sounded from behind them.

"That's our ride. Are you alright, Murdock?"

"How could I not be fine, Face?  This is one beautiful day

and this is one beautiful place to be." And smiling, he playfully

linked arms with his friend. "Come on. BA and the Colonel

are waiting."
