Hannibal watched in silence as the taxi pulled away from the curb.  When it had disappeared from sight, he turned to enter the house again.  Sinking onto a plush armchair, he gazed out over the carefully manicured landscape.  The sun sparkled on the surface of the pond where a pair of snowy white swans serenely drifted.

He reflected on his relationship with Marissa.  She was a good, kind woman.  She claimed to love him.  But he sometimes wondered if it was truly love she felt or merely a deep respect.  Marissa was a business woman.  While she supported a number of causes, none of them seemed to stir her passion.

He had to admit that she failed to evoke any fire in his soul.  He cared for Marissa; he cared deeply.  But ever present in the back of his mind was another's name, another's voice, another's face.  How many nights he had lain awake after making love to Marissa thinking about the one he truly longed for, he didn't know.

Knowing she would be away for the better part of a week, Hannibal reached for the telephone on the table beside him.  There was a hunger inside him which could not be denied.  He needed a taste of the passion so sorely lacking in Marissa's life.

A few hours later, he was standing in the upper hall, looking down into the foyer.  His hands gripped the dark, gleaming wood that hugged the curved twin staircases.  Below him stood a younger man dressed in black dress slacks and a cream colored silk shirt.  His blond hair was neatly arranged to compliment the contours of his handsome face.  His blue eyes stared up at Hannibal.  A smile crept over his features as he made his way up the stairs.

For a few moments, they stood a few feet apart.  No words were needed.  They both knew what the other felt, wanted, needed.  At last, Hannibal broke the silence.  “I've missed you, Face.”

“I've missed you, too, Hannibal.”

“Will you stay?”

Face took a step closer and laced his fingers together with Hannibal's.  “For you, I will.  Tomorrow morning when you wake up, I'll still be here.  I promise.”
